Red Hook + Gowanus Bay

Historically, Red Hook was an area where wetlands met the bay in a complex shoreline. Now, when viewed by Google Maps, it appears as a solid gridwork of streets and industrial piers. The Grain Terminal is built on land that was created by landfilling the water’s edge between 1904 and 1920.

 

Sea Level Rise Predictions

At a regional level, The US Army Corps of Engineers have considered a wide array of options for how to mitigate storm surges into the NYC area. However, these strategies don't address rising sea levels, and localized strategies for raising shorelines are occurring throughout the city.
